How to write a resume that gets interviews

A clear, recruiter-friendly CV is the fastest way from application to interview. Follow these steps, then build your resume for free with CV Lab.

Start with clean contact details

Put your name, phone number, email and city at the top. Make sure the email sounds professional and the phone number includes the correct country code.

Write a short profile summary

Two to three sentences that describe what you do, what you are best at, and what kind of role you are looking for next. Keep it focused on the value you bring.

List experience with results

For each job, write your title, company and dates. Under each role add bullet points that show achievements, not just duties. Use numbers whenever you can.

Add skills and keywords from the job ad

Many companies use ATS software to scan CVs. Include relevant skills, tools and certifications that match the job description, so your CV passes the first filter.

Quick formatting checklist

  • One or two pages maximum
  • Clear headings and consistent fonts
  • Reverse chronological order
  • No photos unless required locally
  • PDF format for applications
  • Proofread before sending
